What I’m Reading
I just finished The Art of Wishing by Lindsay Ribar. I met Lindsay at BEA this year so I was excited to read her book. She’s a debut author so here’s my mini review for the 2013 Debut Author Challenge: I loved it! In the story, the main character Margo meets a hot boy named Oliver who turns out to be a real, live genie. Margo gets to make three wishes, but as she gets to know Oliver better, she discovers that he’s on the run from a murderer, so she tries to save him. The book is a fun take on the genie concept, and I loved how it incorporates magic into a contemporary setting. There were some awesome action scenes! And kissing scenes. It’s the first in a trilogy, and the ending definitely left me wanting more. Looking forward to book 2!
What I’m Writing
Today is the last day of Ready. Set. Write! I fell off the wagon in August due to traveling to LA, moving, and the doubts I explained in my last post. But Ready. Set. Write! was super helpful back in July when I was finishing up my revision. It gave me the motivation I needed to finish so I could start querying again. So, BIG THANKS to the girls who put it together: Alison, Katy, Erin, Jaime, and Elodie!
This past weekend, I tried to work on my new WIP but got distracted by house stuff. I didn’t write as much as I’d hoped, but I did brainstorm some. I plan to be MUCH more productive come September. Updating weekly through What’s Up Wednesday will hold me accountable.
Finally, yesterday I made the decision to only check my query inbox and Query Tracker once per day. This way, I can limit my obsessing over getting published and focus on writing my next book. I’m already noticing that not checking so much is making a difference!
What Else I’ve Been Up To
Lots of house stuff, which has been really fun! We’re almost all unpacked and I can’t wait to start painting and decorating. It’s nice to see our house come together, and I’m still so grateful that we were able to buy it in the first place.
What Inspires Me Right Now
All of you! Posting about my doubts on Friday reminded me how amazing and supportive the writing community is. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one experiencing doubts, and that it is possible to overcome them. So, thank you. You guys keep me sane!
