For years, I wanted to go to SCBWI’s big Los Angeles summer conference. I even added it to my Thirty Before 30 list. I finally made it happen this year, and the conference was just as fun and inspiring as I’d hoped!
I won’t detail the whole conference (you can find recaps of all of the amazing keynotes and workshops here) but below is a slideshow with some pictures from the weekend. The speakers were all wonderful (my favorites were Laurie Halse Anderson and Matt De La Peña) but another big highlight for me was meeting and hanging out with the other kid lit writers. Some I already knew (like my lovely NYC write night ladies) and others I’d known through the Internet for a while and finally got to meet. (*Waves to Jessica and Tameka!*) I even got to stay with fellow YA Buccaneer Rachel Searles and get to know her (and her ninja cat) better. Being able to spend time with all of these girls was priceless!
I hope I can make it out to next year’s LA conference. If you get the chance to attend, it’s totally worth it!
