It’s been a while since I’ve shared a real update, but a lot has been going on, so I’m joining in on this week’s What’s Up Wednesday!

What I’m Reading
Enough said. I just finished re-reading INSURGENT and can’t wait to see how the trilogy ends! (No spoilers, please!)
What I’m Writing
I’m not going to participate in NaNoWriMo this year, but I want to dive back into first-drafting in November. This past Sunday, I had a writing date with a few local CT writers (*waves to Juliana and Cristina*) and I spent the time brainstorming and outlining. I bought copies of THE PLOT WHISPERER and THE PLOT WHISPERER HANDBOOK because I’d heard great things about both. I now have the first act planned out so I’m going to start writing while I figure out the rest. I think drafting this time around will involve a bit of pantsing, which will be interesting since I’m normally a plotter.
Whether or not you’ll be doing NaNoWriMo this year, you should check out the YA Buccaneers NaNoWriMo Tip Treasure Hunt! On Monday, each of us shared drafting and writing tips on our own blogs. (if you missed mine, click here!) We’re also giving away a copy of Chris Baty’s NO PLOT? NO PROBLEM so click here to enter!
What Else I’ve Been Up To
Now for some exciting news – I got a new job! For the last 7+ years, I’ve worked in book publishing in NYC, and it’s been amazing. But since moving to Connecticut, my commute into NYC has been way too long. It was making me unhappy. With my new job, instead of a 90 minute commute each way, it’ll be more like 30! It’s bittersweet, because I’ll no longer be working in book publishing, and I’ll miss it. But I’m really excited about my new job and company, and the time I’ll gain back as a result of a shorter commute will make it all worthwhile. Plus, there will be more time to write!
What Inspires Me Right Now
A couple of Fridays ago, I went to the book launch party of author Alison Cherry. Her debut RED just released. The party was so fun, and very inspiring! I loved watching Alison celebrate her debut – something I hope to do myself one day. And it was fun to hang out with other writers and YA lovers.
With the help of her friends and even her mom, Alison shared the first chapter reader’s theater style. It was hilarious! I can’t wait to read the rest of RED, right after I finish ALLEGIANT! She also had red-themed treats and a photo booth with red props. Below are some pics I took, and you can find more over at Alison’s blog.
My husband even came along, because the party was the same day as our third wedding anniversary! He enjoyed the reading, and we went out to dinner after.
